I am Spartacus

If you have never heard of Jason Gambert before, you soon will. He is creating a storm in the US by trying to register SEO as a Trade Mark.

The laughable side of this furor is that he claims to have coined the phrase in 2007. Naturally, the SEO world is up in arms and SEOMOZ has a very informative post, which is worthy of a read in full.

Anyway, a quick search of my email database reveals usage of SEO back in 2003 so I am in with a shout, surely?!

Looks like a link bait technique. He's created some controversey around the term SEO and as such will get lots of links back to him, and rapidly improve his position in the search engines for that term

Nope, I don't think so. If you read the article to which we refer you will be aware that the said culprit and his website cannot be found. As quoted:

On a final note, I could not find any trace of "Jason Gambert" on the web. Now, I didn't do an exhaustive search, but I tried some basic things like "Jason Gambert," "Gambert SEO," "Gambert Arizona," and "Gambert California." I think it's odd that the man claiming he was the first to use "SEO" in commerce for "marketing services in the field of computers" has virtually zero web visibility. His alleged specimen is devoid of a URL.

His site was probably down for a bit, a search for his name shows the link bait in action. 1st 10 results are all about him and SEO. Most probably point to him
